Land in verzet brengt je de stemmen van zij die geen maatpakken dragen of parlementaire platforms bestijgen. De stemmen in de ecologische frontlinie, in strijd tegen mijnbouwmultinationals. De film ‘Savanna and the Mountain’ belicht de strijd van de gemeenschap in Covas de Barroso, Portugal om hun gezondheid en toekomst te beschermen.
De gemeenschap van Covas do Barroso, in het noorden van Portugal, ontdekt dat het Brits bedrijf Savannah Resources de grootste open-put-lithium-mijn plant op amper een paar meter van hun huizen. Geconfronteerd met dreiging, besluit het Volk zich te organiseren en het bedrijf van hun land te verdrijven.
De groene transitie is een théma. Volgens heersende politici is meer mijnbouw nodig om lithium te pakken te krijgen voor de elektrificatie van de samenleving en om onze economie een boost te geven. De mijnbouwindustrie wil meer extractie als brandstof voor eindeloze consumptie. Een stem die daarbij nauwelijks wordt gehoord is die van gemeenschappen wier thuis wordt bedreigd door mijnbouw. Het zijn zij die nochtans de destructie, vervuiling en maatschappelijke schade van het extractivisme doormaken.
Opbrengsten van de vertoningen gaan naar gemeenschappen die vechten tegen mijnbouw. De films wordt geïntroduceerd door de regisseur. Blijf hangen voor een interessant nagesprek!

Lands in Resistance brings you the voices of those who don’t wear suits or speak from parliament platforms. The voices at the frontline of environmental defense combating mining multinationals. The film ‘Savanna and the Mountain’ highlights the fight of affected communities in Covas do Barroso, Portugal for their life, health and future.
‘The community of Covas do Barroso, in northern Portugal, discovers that the British company Savannah Resources plans to build the largest open-pit lithium mine in Europe just few meters from their homes. Confronted by this imminent threat, the People decide to organize themselves and expel the company from their lands.’
The green transition is a hot topic. According to ruling politicians more mining is necessary to get lithium and other critical raw materials for the electrification of society and to boost our economy. The mining industry pushes for more extraction to fuel neverending consumption. A voice that is rarely heard is that of communities whose homes are invaded by mining. Yet they live the destruction, pollution and societal damage caused by it.
Proceeds from the screenings will go to communities fighting against mining. Both movies are introduced virtually by the directors. Stick around for an interesting conversation!

Met onze “Right To Say No Campagne” steunt CATAPA getroffen gemeenschappen in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador en Colombia om mijnbouwprojecten op hun grondgebied tegen te houden. Want momenteel wordt niet naar hen geluisterd, en worden ze vaak zelfs vervolgd en vermoord voor hun verzet. Gemeenschappen moeten het recht hebben om NEE te zeggen tegen mijnbouwprojecten die hun omgeving en levenswijze vernietigen en JA tegen de omgeving en samenleving die ze verkiezen.

CATAPA is a volunteer movement that has existed since 2005. We strive for a world where mining is no longer necessary because mining has a huge negative impact on people and nature.
With our “Right To Say No Campaign,” CATAPA supports affected communities in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia to stop mining projects in their territories. Because currently they are not listened to, and for their resistance they are persecuted and killed. Communities must have the right to say NO to mining projects that destroy their environment and way of life, and YES to the environment and life they chose.
